1Why did you join Berkeley?

I joined Berkeley for two main reasons: firstly, for its culture. Throughout the interview process, and since joining, I was continually attracted to the collaboration, talent and community that exists at Berkeley. Multiple minds are better than one, which the collaboration of knowledge across the Berkeley team supports, and the community creates a sense of belonging and positive working environment which is prime for me.

Secondly, I joined Berkeley’s to refocus on delivering complex consulting work.  Having previously been at a large global consulting firm, I found myself spending increasing amount of time on administrative internal tasks and moving further away from the consulting core of the role that I enjoy. It is this consulting refocus that Berkeley’s provides.

2What core value or approach do you use to help clients achieve their aspirations?

For me when I start a new client piece of work, I ensure that collaboratively the client and I are crystal clear on the desired outcomes and ‘so what’ of the project. From this point, there is then one core question that I continually ask and challenge myself on during the duration of the work: “does this activity/ decision help us move towards the vision or desired outcome?” I find that by constantly challenging myself it matures my thinking and ensures that I strive for the right outcome for the client now and into the future.

3Why did you become a management consultant?

I had always sought a career that had people at the core, alongside providing intellectual challenge, diversity and continual opportunities to learn and grow. Whilst I started my career as a Geography Teacher in South London, I soon recognized that this was not the right fit for me. As I came to this recognition, I somewhat stumbled upon consulting and quickly realised this provided the collaboration, challenge, relationships and learning experiences I had been hungry for. The rest is history, and after eight years as a management consultant these aspects continue to be true every day.
