1 What's the most suprising thing you've learned about Berkeley?
That it is just what I had hoped for in a place to work. Often recruitment processes can be misleading about the realities of a job and upon landing the role you realise things are not as they seemed during the interview. This was definitely not the case for Berkeley. The team took the time to really get to know me during the recruitment process, allowing me to also get to know them, particularly the culture and values of the firm. As a result, Berkeley, its values and my role have turned out to be exactly what I had hoped for.
2What’s the most important thing you've learned in your career so far?
The importance in giving others my time. In an era of constant speed and change there is a sense of urgency that often results in the human touch being lost. To me it has always been so important to take time to listen to others, learn from them, share experiences, let people know you are there – truly getting to know those you work with daily. I believe this genuinely contributes toward a positive and supportive environment of trust – without which a people-centric business simply cannot flourish. John B Keane once said that “The greatest gift you can give another person is your time” And this is something I have carried with me in my career.
3What might people be interested in knowing about you?
When people ask what I'm into, it’s always a bit of a strange surprise that I mention my love for sea swimming —especially in the cold Irish sea. There's something about the challenge and shock of it that helps me reset, feel grounded and boosts my mood. And the satisfying reward of hot drink after is a huge plus!
